As part of the 50th anniversary of the sister city
relationship between Racine and Montélimar, France, I created a
saggar-fired ceramic piece inspired by the acorn. The photos below illustrate
the steps involved in the creation of this work. (Read my artist
statement about this work.)
Because of the unpredictable nature of the saggar-firing process, i.e., color and cracking, I had to make multiple components to get one piece that I thought would be acceptable.
